For today’s manufacturers and consumers, the more information the better! A recent article published by Manufacturing.net explores the use of Internet of Things (IoT) technology in order to digitize supply chains. Author Tom O’Boyle discusses how IoT technology is being incorporated in the following areas:
- Manufacturing Plant – The use of passive and active sensors to track each item or batch of items.
- Warehouse – Improved security, labor efficiency, and order accuracy by using IoT tech to create “real-time visibility” of all the goods and inventory stored in the warehouse.
- In Transit – Prevent cargo loss—generally due to theft, damage, or delay—with a IoT such as GPRS, GPS, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth devices that track and monitor goods during transit. As a bonus, a supply chain management (SCM) system can import and analyze the information for additional benefit.
- Retail Store – IoT tech offers valuable insights about the speed of item sales, the state of excess inventory, and the need for item replenishment.
